Alberto Gianoli (PhD Policy Studies, University of Bristol; MSc Economics, University of Milano) is an economist and public management specialist with nearly fifteen years of working experience as a researcher and consultant. His main areas of expertise and interest include environmental economics and environmental finance, performance measurement and management, monitoring and evaluation, impact studies, decision making analysis (e.g. cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness analysis, multi criteria decision making), urban and regional management and governance, and urban and regional (economic) development. At the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS) Dr Gianoli is involved with high-profile research and consultancy assignments, is project leader for various institutional development projects, teaches on IHS Master in Urban Management and Development and professional training programmes, and co-ordinates IHS PhD programme. Prior to joining IHS, Dr Gianoli worked for an international research and consultancy organisation on European Commission projects in the field of urban and regional (sustainable) development.
Dr Gianoli has completed a wide range of consultancy assignments and has held various positions including project co-ordinator, team leader, senior technical advisor, principal researcher and trainer. He has carried out assignments for the World Bank, European Commission, United Nations (UNDP, UNEP, UN-HABITAT), OSCE and several national, regional and local governments world-wide. He has working experience in a number of countries including Italy, United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, Kosovo, Romania, South Africa, Namibia, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Uganda, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Bangladesh and Curacao.
