Marc Jansen (MSc Civil Engineering and Planning, TU Delft 1972) has over 30 years of experience in international developmental work and projects, a large part of which he has spent abroad in a variety of short and long-term assignments in Asia and Africa. His long-term postings have included Kenya (roads and physical planning, Indonesia (project leader/advisor at the Directorate General for Human Settlements), India - New Delhi (project leader at the HUDCO's Human Settlements Management Institute – assistance in building up the institution and India - Hyderabad [project leader for the design of the Andhrapradesh Urban Services to the Poor project]. Other countries of longer term experience include The Netherlands, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Zambia, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Thailand. Marc specialises in the fields of environment and urban infrastructure development and management, with special interests in integrated planning and development, low cost and appropriate technology, issues of sustainability, measures to reach the urban poor and the related good governance to make it all happening. From 1985 Marc has been managing and teaching in IHS short and diploma courses. Further from 1996 Marc has been teaching and tutoring in the academic courses of the IHS & partners [such as Wageningen University, UNESCO-IHE], along with programme director assignments [such as tailor made Msc Urban Infrastructure Management for the Indonesian Government]. Next Marc is active in conducting and managing consultancy in the mentioned fields of interest. Since 2004 Marc is the project leader at the IHS for a major decentralisation support project in Indonesia. Finally Marc is engaged in the promotion of partnerships with educational and capacity building institutions, notably in Asia [Indonesia, India and China] and Africa along with related country level programme development.
