Ms. Zwanenburg (development sociologist) has been working since 1992 in social development issues and poverty reduction, especially in the fields of employment, micro and small enterprise development and local economic development. From 1993 to 1999, Ms. Zwanenburg worked as a professional staff of the International Labour Organization (ILO) working in Latin America in the design and implementation of a variety of projects in the field of micro and small enterprise development and local economic development. She built up her experience in working together with national and local authorities, micro and small business associations, NGOs and commercial banks. During a period of two years Ms. Zwanenburg was based in Geneva from where she carried out several assignments for ILO and UNDP in Central and Eastern Europe in the field of small enterprise development and local economic development. She especially worked on the provision of financial services for small businesses and on the creation of local economic development forums. Ms. Zwanenburg joined IHS in 1999 as a local economic development expert and has build since then a solid experience in urban poverty reduction, income generation, urban social policies and social development and local economic development strategies. Ms. Zwanenburg has designed and conducted training and research as well as advisory services in the field of urban social development, urban poverty reduction, income generation and local economic development. Ms. Zwanenburg was IHS project team leader of SINPA Project in Bolivia, a capacity building and institutional development project undertaken by IHS in close cooperation with Bolivian universities and NGO’s in support to the Municipality of Santa Cruz de la Sierra. In addition, Ms. Zwanenburg was IHS team leader of EGAL Project executed by a consortium formed by IHS, FLACSO Facultad Latinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales and ISS that focused on the design and implementation of post graduation programmes on local economic development for Central America. Ms. Zwanenburg has long and short-term experience in Ecuador, Venezuela, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Cuba, Argentina, Croatia, Ukraine, Romania, Albania, Djibouti, Zambia, Egypt and The Netherlands.
