Veronica Olivotto (MSc Urban Management and Development, IHS in 2009; MSc Ecotourism, University of Edinburgh-Napier 2007, BA Tourism and Local Community, University of Milan in 2006) joined IHS in March 2011 both coordinating and teaching in a workshop on Istanbul city along with Senior Expert in Urban Land Management and Policies Carlos Morales-Schechinger. In June 2011 she joined IHS’s Project Acquisition Team, supporting the tendering process, its content and management and lectured in Urban Social Analysis and Social Sustainability during a course in Urban Strategic Planning. Her final dissertation focused on the impact of power and organizational culture within Public-Third Sector Partnerships for urban regeneration. Her current research specialties and ambitions center in urban sociology and the livelihoods assets of vulnerable communities’ vis-à-vis the impacts of climate change.


During her academic experience she developed research projects with local partners in the Caribbean, Sri Lanka and Italy. Between 2007 and 2009 she worked at the Scottish Institute for Sustainable Technology, a not-for-profit research-led consultancy based at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. There she advised on sustainable tourism mega projects in the Middle East, worked on national sustainable tourism indicators and sustainable transport planning and coordinated stakeholders in a renewable energy-in farming project. She has worked with Local and National Governments in Scotland, with private enterprises, NGOs, research institutes and local community organizations. Between 2005 and 2006, she was a Booking Officer for KUONI Travel Ltd., one of the world’s leading globally active leisure travel organizations.
