Anteneh Getnet (1981) came to Erasmus University Rotterdam, in 2006, after nearly five years of experience in Ethiopia in consultant firms, Engineering and construction industries, Technical colleges and Universities. At the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS) of Erasmus University, he studied MSc in Urban Management and Development specializing in Urban environment and infrastructure management which was a turning point for his carrier from construction technology/civil engineering where the focus was on designing and supervising the construction process of individual buildings and infrastructures to the broader interlink of this structures to the social, economic and environmental aspects of the whole urban system and their role in the development of the society.

With a bachelor degree in construction technology/civil engineering from Adama University, Ethiopia, 2002, Anteneh Getnet worked in the construction industry as a designer, consultant and supervisor in several cities and towns in Ethiopia. He also worked as a lecturer and instructor in universities and technical colleges. During his master’s degree, he was interested more on the environment and infrastructure aspects of urban development and did his thesis on ‘integrating land use and transport policies for sustainable development in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’. After his master’s degree, 2007, he focused more on urban development issues where he worked in master plan development, housing development and neighbourhood development projects in Addis Ababa, Amhara and Afar regions in Ethiopia.

Currently he is part of the Project Development department of the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS) - EUR.
