Nico van der Windt (1949) is an economist with more than 25 years of professional experience. From 1 January 2005, Nico is the director of IHS. Before joining the institute he held leading positions in the Faculty of Economics of the Erasmus University Rotterdam and in the Netherlands Economic Institute-NEI. He was director of the Division of Macro and Sector Policies of NEI and from 1999 he has become director of the Social Economic Research Rotterdam-SEOR. He has specialised in economic policies and public finance and has solid experience in research and advisory services in the field of macroeconomic policies in the Netherlands and abroad. Part of his professional career has been spent on short and long-term overseas assignments particularly advising governments in the field of economic policies in Europe, Asia and Africa. For more than 10 years Nico led research on economic modelling within the Macro Economic Policy Research Group at the Erasmus University that were applied in a number of countries. He has undertaken a variety of sector studies and policy evaluations for a wide variety of clients including the main bilateral donor agencies, European Commission, World Bank and governments of a large number of countries. His current research interests are in the fields of economic growth and competition policies.
