IHS Alumni Association Bolivia

Location Bolivia

Context

Bolivia, located at the heart of South America is a country with a few population – nearly 9 millions- where the emblematic topics and the political agenda refers to the indigenous and the social exclusion. The urban problems in the absence of organized movements have not visualized yet the fundamental role of the cities and the situation of the urban poor.

History and features of IHS Alumni Association Bolivia

In this context, just one year ago and at the time of the Course “Strategies for sustainable cities in Latin America” organized by the IHS and ex-alumni in Bolivia decided formalize an Association in our country. Our Alumni Association just had four members that work in the urban field in different cities of the country, to this petit group a new member just graduated from IHS has joined.

It is valuable recognize that the Bolivian participation at IHS is and has been reduced compared to other countries from other regions, and that has happened because of different factors that include lack of information about the existence of the Institute and the availability of scholarships which are managed by entities of the national government, another factor is the reduced interest of graduates to enroll due to the fact that the English language is not massively known which constitute a decisive barrier that discourage the potential applicants.

In spite of that situation the members of IHS alumni Bolivia have many dreams and challenges and we hope from our voices to contribute to build of more sustainable cities.
