Objective
The course provides guidance in running short courses for urban professionals in Ethiopia. More specifically, the course will assess the curriculum and training methodology of short courses in urban management and development, based on an international comparison with similar courses.
Target group
ECSC staff, responsible for the short courses in urban housing management, urban land management, local economic development, municipal infrastructure management and solid waste management.
Content
Training cycle (training needs assessment, participant selection, curriculum development, programme and course development, programme and course management and finance, evaluations, impact assessment)
Training methodology (life long learning): different forms of learning, ranging from on-the-job training to field visits, exercises, group discussions and lectures.
Latest theories and trends on the topics of the short courses (urban housing management, urban land management, local economic development, municipal infrastructure management and solid waste management)
Course methodology
The course has a practical focus. Based on cutting edge theory on training methodologies and topics in which ECSC offers short courses, participants will practice new and innovative training methodologies in mock presentations. This experience combined with insight into the course curricula of international training institutes (IHS, EUR and others) allows participants to consider improvements in the curricula and training methodology of ECSC short courses.
