De Doelen

Lovers of classical music have their tastes well catered for in the concert hall in Rotterdam, De Doelen. You can listen to opera, jazz and non-western music in this smart establishment. One of the biggest events is the annual Gergiev festival, named after the conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Students pay only five euros for any seats not sold one hour before the performance. Take your student ID card with you. De Doelen, Schouwburgplein 50, www.dedoelen.nl.

Dunya Festival

Meet the world at Dunya. At this famous world culture festival yearly around 200,000 visitors enjoy music, poetry and art from all over the world. Each part of the world is represented by its own stage: www.dunya.nl.

Nighttown

With space for over a thousand visitors, Nighttown is the biggest music venue in Rotterdam. There’s a wide range of music on offer, with well-known rock bands from inside and outside the Netherlands, as well as rap and soul musicians from all over the world. Dance music is high on the list, sometimes too high for those who would rather come to hear bands playing live. Nighttown, Westkruiskade 26-28, www.nighttown.nl.

Summer Carnival

Summer Carnival is a yearly 3-day Caribbean Carnival in the city centre of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Summer Carnival, similar to the carnival in Rio, is a huge event where at least 1.000.000 visitors come from all over Europe to dance to the latin music and look at the colourful and amazing costumes and floats in the big street parade.

Summer Carnival has got a lot to offer. For starters you can visit the Summer Carnival pre party on Thursday on the Beach. The next day The Warmig Up/Battle of Drums starts of. On Saturday the big Street Parade emerges in the city centre. At night there is still a lot to see on the two live stages and last but not least you can visit 'La Noche Grande del Carnaval', so you can party on the Brazilian Way until the wee hours.
