Making Urban Settlements Work for the Poor - Were land reforms enough in West Africa?

Target audience: all participants should come from West Africa, at least half of them are women, and they have completed NFP training more than two years ago; Participants must have a relevant professional background, working in sectors closely related to land management, informal settlements regularisation, land and housing projects for the poor and development projects were land has a significant component. In this proposed course, the recruiting will try to cover people from different institutions involved in land reforms and land management, including government, developers and NGOs. It aims to generate insightful debate during the course.
Objectives: This proposed refresher course creates a forum for participants involved in land management institutions in the West Africa region. The main objective is to update the participants with the recent knowledge developed, strategies implemented, and experiences gained in the region and globally in relating to the land management and poor settlement and land related urban development. It aims to build the capacity of the participants to confront with the future of land reform challenges in the region, and to make policies that help to improve the livelihood of people living in poor settlements and allow for urban development.
