Executive Courses
Helping cities thrive in times of crisis
Cities are engines of growth; if they can respond to the ever-increasing challenges of a globalized world. But how do we ensure they function effectively? What will a viable, attractive and sustainable metropolis look like? And what can you do - as urban designers or managers - to make this a reality, especially in times of economic crisis?
The IHS (Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies) executive courses address these issues. They are aimed at senior and executive urban professionals around the globe. Participation in these courses will bring you into contact with leading researchers, politicians and practitioners, while offering you the latest thinking and best practices on urban strategies.

CANCELLED* The Credit Crunch and Access to Credit by Local Government
IHS, Rotterdam, The Netherlands, 19-23 April 2010
The goal of this intensive course is to enable participants to raise finance for municipal government expenditure in the present credit crunch. It will also strengthen their understanding of the crisis and help them develop strategies for (local) solutions.
* Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) of EU Co-Financed Projects
IHS, Rotterdam, The Netherlands, 17-21 May 2010
Development projects often require huge investments in domains such as infrastructure, human resources and technical know-how. On completion of the course, participants will be able to conduct a CBA for EU funding investment projects in the programming period 2007 – 2013 using the EU funding gap method.
* Preparing Bankable Public Private Partnerships (PPP) Projects
Rotterdam, The Netherlands, 10-18 June 2010
In recent years, the trend has been for governments to work in partnership with the private sector. However, the process of preparing and putting projects out to bid is lengthy and complicated. Working together is not always easy either. In fact, the knowledge and skills necessary to prepare bankable and long-term sustainable PPP projects is often lacking within government bodies.
Certificates
Participants will receive a certificate of attendance issued by IHS, Erasmus University Rotterdam and, where applicable, the course partner.
