Inclusive Cities

Does participation by inhabitants and users of urban space contribute to a better spatial development? Examples from all over the world show that participation can improve the quality of urban life, even for those in socially weak positions. Francesco Orsini (engineer and IHS alumnus) worked on the strategy of the Proyecto Urbano Integra (PUI) in Medellin (Colombia). After a new public transport project was implemented in that city, the situation of people living in informal settlements changed drastically. People formely excluded from city life can now take part in it.
