Safe Cities

How can we keep our fast-growing cities safe, now and in the future? Lydia Fitchko (Director of Social Policy, Analysis and Research in the Social Development Division of the City of Toronto) describes how Toronto approaches safety issues. Community safety is considered to be more than the absence of violence. It is about social equity and community well-being. Safety is tackled on various scale levels, from neighbourhood to district, but also on the metropolitan level.
