Our alumni include ministers, mayors, successful businessmen and renowned NGO specialists. Participating in any of our programmes provides entrance into international networks of urban professionals, institutes and capacity building initiatives. Participants will benefit from the extensive network of IHS, including an alumni association with over 7,000 members and contacts with donor agencies and training centres. IHS is engaged in over 100 urban programmes and projects at any point in time, enabling a direct link between theory and practice. IHS lecturers have worked all over the world thus creating a possibility to discuss and initiate programmes and projects in your country and your cities.
| “When I think of the knowledge I acquired at IHS, I think that my period of study at IHS meant an empowerment for me. It provided me with the possibility to actually realise that through the technical knowledge I would be able to transform the city, the management of planning processes, and would be able to act with efficiency. I followed my professional career within IPLANRio/IPP, within the perspective of a public agency, but with a strong belief that this transformation was a concrete opportunity and not a probability to act in the future. Fortunately I was able to participate in municipal governments that had clear policies in place and unequivocal urban projects intervention methods that actually had the power to transform public spaces”. |
“The period in Rotterdam helped me to acquire the skills and knowledge I needed to pursue my academic and professional activities. It led me to travel to all the continents of the world and visit more than 40 cities. It did also lay the basis for me to undertake several international and national consultancies in the domains of urban development, poverty alleviation, local governance, urban management. etc for many international and Non-Governmental Organizations such as UNHabitat, UNDP, World Bank, African Development Bank, Care International, and Commonwealth etc. This strengthened my ability to contribute to Cameroon’s development and be actively involved in local and national development processes. I have also assisted many councils in the country to formulate poverty alleviation programmes for the Highly Indebted Poor Countries Initiatives.” | |
