IHS students’ accommodation
IHS looks after housing for its course participants. IHS makes use of a hostel situated in a very central location, close to the Central train station of Rotterdam, at a walking distance from the city centre, shops, market and entertainments.
Participants are offered apartments furnished with basic furniture providing privacy at reasonable prices. The rents are affordable vis-à-vis the standard fellowships. Facilities like the kitchen, toilet and shower are shared by a group of 3 occupants. In addition, IHS short-lists family houses where participants can also rent a room with basic furniture and supplied with private toilet and kitchen facilities. These are used when the hostel is fully booked.
Weenapad is located near the city center of Rotterdam. It is the main accommodation of IHS with around 70 rooms. Most are 3-person units with own room and shared bathroom and kitchen, plus a limited number of bigger single rooms at the ground floor (own bathroom, toilet and kitchen). All rooms are non-smoking.

Two supermarkets are within walking distance (about 5 minutes walking) of the dormitory. The dormitory is about 10 minutes walk from the Central Station and IHS is about a 20 minutes tram ride away from the dormitory.
The units are basic furnished with:
- Small cupboard
- Kitchen equipments such as pots, plates, glasses, cutlery, etc.
Room in 3-person unit
Weenapad does not provide any household items, this means you have to buy/bring your own:
2 sheets cover, pillow cover and duvet cover
4 washing detergent
5 washing liquid (for dirty dishes)
6 garbage bags
7 cleaning liquid for example to clean the bathroom or other rooms
Common room and game room/ washing area
In the basement is the common room and game room. Also there is a washing area with two washing machines and two dryers. For the washing machines you need tokens. You can buy washing tokens during the office hours of the student warden. The use of dryers is free. In the common room you can read, watch television and play games.
Weenapad also provides bicycle holders on the ground floor.
For more details you can contact the student warden Ms Parmelia Hussain who is living on the top floor of the hostel (room 161-165), telephone 010 - 4131258.
When all rooms in Weenapad are reserved IHS can sometimes provide accommodation in so-called "private houses" to accommodate students. These rooms are usually normal houses, with 4-6 rooms and sharing one or two bathrooms/kitchens depending on the size of the house. Sometimes we can rent rooms in hostels from other international institutes. We try to find houses that are in or near the city center as well as I.H.S., with about same travel distance as Weenapad. The basic inventory in these houses is usually also the same as in the hostel (bed, pillow, wardrobe, chair, desk, availability of washing machine etc).
There is no phone connection in the Weenapad hostel. You have to call from a phone booth outside, or use your mobile phone. You can buy relatively cheap sim - cards to make international calls, think of Ortel, T-mobile, or Lycos.
The rooms in Weenapad all have an internet connection. Please note that for internet you can also use the PC’s at I.H.S. (weekdays only).
Please note that we do not encourage participants to bring their own car due to the fact that there is no parking garage or guarded parking space at any of the I.H.S. accommodation.
