IHS has employed social media and particularly Facebook since 2008 as we were in the need of a platform where all friends of IHS, current students, students or professionals who wish to do a master's in Urban Management and Development or want to specialize on a subject through an IHS short course or even IHS alumni who want to keep in touch with their classmates and their professors, could develop discussions amongst each other as well as get in contact with us in a more informal and spotaneous way.
With this need in mind, we have developed the IHS fanpage and tried to invite all our friends there as well as reach new audiences who might want to be involved in Urban Management matters and studies. Our ultimate goal was and still is to maintain this platform which could host discussions and debates around urban topics, questions from prospective students, event announcements, pictures and videos as well as information as well as tips about student life here at IHS in Rotterdam. Today, we are very happy to see that we have more than 25.000 fans on Facebook who are actively engaged in discussions and other interactions and we continuously work to reach more people worldwide who are interested and would like to be more involved and further informed about IHS and our activities!
Apart from Facebook, IHS is active also on LinkedIn.com and YouTube channel. Join us there!

Student life cyleThroughout the ‘life cycle’ of an international student the Marketing & Communication department stays in touch by different channels. The first phase is when students are still looking for a study destination, the second is guiding them through the application process.
But, during the third phase when students are enrolled, the M & C department connects actively with the students by involving them in the IHS & I programme. This programme was designed to include student’s opinions and evaluations in the improvement of communication materials and information provided online. In the six sessions of this programme students are briefed on the professional benefits the network of IHS can provide during their programme and after graduation as alumni.

It has been some months since the refresher course: “Reducing vulnerability for flooding and landslides: Gender responsive adaptation strategies in times of Climate Change in the Andes Region”, organised by the IHS in close collaboration with the Netherlands Alumni Association of Ecuador and HABITierra, took place in Quito. It was held at the SEK University of Quito, and in the same dates the Regional Meeting of Alumni and Friends of IHS was also held at the Howard Johnson Hotel. I did not feel myself under pressure to write about the meeting, as our friend and president of the IHS Alumni International (IHS AI), Dr. Jaime Hernández, prepared immediately a wide and comprehensive report already published in the IHS Newsletter, corresponding to the winter of 2011.
