MOOC: Planning for Climate Change in African Cities

We are excited to announce the upcoming release of our first Massive Online Open Course (MOOC), Planning for Climate Change in African Cities.

The MOOC has been developed by IHS in collaboration with African Local Governments Academy (ALGA), United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG) and Erasmus University Rotterdam. It will officially be launched in August and it will be available free of charge on 

The MOOC will provide a foundation for understanding African cities’ exposure and sensitivity to climate change and how cities can best manage these impacts in the face of growing uncertainty. The course encourages participants to apply their knowledge and practice their decision making skills in a simulated exercise/simulated exercises which will broaden the discussion on planning for climate change.

Planning for Climate Change in African Cities features lecturers from esteemed universities from all over the world including Makerere University, University of Leeds, Erasmus University Rotterdam, University of Twente and Ardhi University as well as experts from UN-Habitat and the International Institute of Environment and Development (IIED).

The MOOC is a 5-week online course and will be available for free on Coursera. A certificate can be acquired once the course has been completed for a small fee.
