Moving towards Habitat III

Habitat III – IHS aims to make Habitat II country reports available

Habitat III, the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development will take place in Quito, Ecuador, in October 2016. In resolution 66/207 and in line with the bi-decennial cycle (1976, 1996 and 2016), the United Nations General Assembly decided to convene the Habitat III Conference to reinvigorate the global commitment to sustainable urbanization, to focus on the implementation of a “New Urban Agenda”, building on the Habitat Agenda of Istanbul in 1996.

The IHS library, is interested in helping to contribute to Habitat III by providing an overview of the National Reports that were produced as a preparation for the Habitat II conference that was held in Istanbul, Turkey in 1996. We hope making them available in this way will serve as a point of departure for national delegations as they compile their new national reports for Quito.

Call for more country reports

If you miss a country report from our list of Habitat II Country Reports we would like to urge anyone who can assist (librarians, national officials, urban professionals, alumni of IHS etc.) to send to IHS any country report ‘missing’ from the list, and IHS will then add it to the list on this web page . We are also interested in any other documents that are part of any of the first Habitat conference held in Vancouver, Canada in 1976 and any further Habitat II + 5 reports.

Please send your documents to:
