IHS partners with The Social Hub’s TSH Talent Foundation to empower future urban changemakers in Rotterdam

The Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS), Erasmus University Rotterdam, has partnered with the European hospitality brand’s TSH Talent Foundation to support three exceptional students through the IHS-TSH Changemaker Scholarship. This collaboration aims to make the MSc in Urban Management & Development programme more diverse, inclusive, and globally accessible.

Expanding opportunities for global talent

The partnership between IHS and TSH Talent Foundation reflects a shared commitment to expanding access to postgraduate education in urban development. IHS is one of nearly 50 European partner institutions working together with the Foundation to broaden opportunities for global talent, with more than 155 scholarships offered since the organisation’s founding in 2024. Through the IHS–TSH Changemaker Scholarship, three candidates will receive comprehensive support, including tuition coverage, housing, and access to The Social Hub’s vibrant changemaker community, helping remove structural barriers and create meaningful opportunities for talented students to thrive.

The initiative is designed to remove financial and social barriers to higher education, enabling students to focus fully on their academic journey. Beyond funding, awardees gain access to a mentorship programme, professional training, and a Europe-wide community of students and professionals dedicated to creating inclusive and sustainable cities.

“We are proud to partner with IHS because access to education, accommodation and strong communities is critical for students facing barriers to success." - said Frank Uffen, Chairman of TSH Talent Foundation. "Through this scholarship, IHS awardees will join a European community of hundreds of changemakers across 21 The Social Hub locations in 8 countries, spanning disciplines from music and the arts to sustainability, technology and public policy. This diversity is the true value of the programme. Beyond financial support, scholars gain access to new ways of thinking, peer learning and networks that extend far beyond their institutions-connections that empower them to shape more inclusive and sustainable cities across Europe and beyond.”

Fostering a diverse learning environment

By partnering with TSH Talent Foundation, IHS strengthens its commitment to building a truly international and diverse learning environment. The collaboration brings together students from a range of backgrounds, experiences, and regions, enriching classroom discussions and encouraging innovative approaches to urban challenges.

"Building the cities of tomorrow will require competent and committed urban professionals."- said David Dodman, General Director of IHS. “With this programme we will make sure that these skills are built for the countries and cities that need them the most.”

The first cohort of IHS–TSH Changemaker Scholars will join the MSc in Urban Management & Development programme in the next academic year, bringing fresh perspectives and a shared passion for urban transformation.
