SCORE is a four-year EU-funded project, aimed at increasing climate resilience in European coastal cities. The project tackles challenges related to sea levels, coastal erosion and extreme weather events using an integrated solution of smart technologies and nature-based solutions. SCORE brings together an interdisciplinary team of 28 partners from 12 countries, consisting of members of the academia, local authorities, RPOs, and SMEs. Funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, SCORE unites citizens, scientists, decision-makers and other stakeholders who work together to address specific challenges related to the threats in coastal cities.
How is it organised?
The Coastal City Living Lab (CCLLs) is one of the main concepts behind SCORE. CCLL is a virtual framework that will enable citizens and stakeholders to co-create and co-design the solutions with scientists, researchers and engineers to make sure these are sustainable and acceptable by society. SCORE includes a network of 10 coastal cities ‘living labs’ that will involve citizens in providing prototype coastal city early-warning systems. These 10 pilot cities are evenly distributed across Europe to make sure that any solution can be replicated anywhere else.
The role of IHS
IHS leads Work Package 2: Coastal City Living Lab design, implementation, and evaluation. The institute is also a member of Work Package 6, which focuses on the socio-economic assessment of adaptation strategies and policy recommendations.
