Anthony Boanada-Fuchs is Head of Projects and Partnerships at the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS). In this role, he is responsible for project acquisition and for strengthening processes that support our academic experts, while broadening and deepening the institute’s partnerships.
Anthony holds two Master’s degrees from TU Delft in Architecture and Urban Studies, and a PhD in Development Studies from the Geneva Graduate Institute (IHEID). He has conducted postdoctoral research at ETH Zurich, the University of São Paulo, and universities in Lausanne and Bern.
Alongside his academic career, Anthony has worked as a consultant for international organisations, including Cities Alliance, Metropolis, the Centre for Affordable Housing Finance (CAHF), LC3, and SKAT.
His research focuses on key forces shaping urban development in the Global South, including affordable housing policy, slum upgrading, urban informality (both conceptual and data-driven approaches), real estate development, financialization, and housing finance. His work combines strong technical expertise in housing and urban development with a deep understanding of policy processes and extensive field experience across more than 30 countries.
His recent project, Inform2Build, systematised informal building practices in Sub-Saharan Africa, generating new insights into locally grounded housing solutions.
