Prof. Dr. Lasse Gerrits, Academic Director

Prof. Dr Dr Lasse Gerrits, Academic Director is a professor of Governance of Complex Urban Transformations at IHS and the academic director of the institute. He leads the PhD program and holds the final responsibility for the academic quality of research and higher education at the institute. 

Dr Mukta Naik, PhD alumna

Dr Mukta Naik completed her PhD at IHS in 2024. Trained as an architect and urban planner, she is a public policy researcher focused on urban housing, livelihoods and internal migration. Her PhD, "Governing Youth Mobilities in ‘Migration Junctions’: A Scalar View from India’s ‘smaller’ Cities." shifts focus from long-term rural-urban migration to the role of smaller Indian cities in shaping youth mobility. It unpacks the role of smaller cities in the complexified mobility pathways of youth who are at the heart of structural transformation in developing economies..
