Debra Efroymson will hold a public lecture by presenting good case practices from her work and also provide several insights on building, maintaining alliances.
Debra Efroymson has spent 25 years living and working in Asia (Hanoi, Colombo, and Dhaka). Her work has covered a wide range of topics but includes a focus on urban planning and transport policy, as well as public spaces. Debra will share some of the successes from her work, including saving a major park in Hanoi from development/destruction, conducting a successful campaign to save traditional markets in Hanoi, creating Open Street events in Dhaka, and promoting carfree cities. Debra will also share some of the lessons she has learned in terms of creating and maintaining alliances, gaining media attention, and working with government agencies. She will share her optimistic outlook in terms of how we, as individuals as well as urban professionals, can help create better cities for all residents.

About the lecturer
Debra Efroymson is the executive director of the Institute of Wellbeing, an international advisor for Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust and Regional Director of HealthBridge. She has an MS in Public Health from Harvard University and has worked on urban planning and transport issues since 2004. She is the author of Beyond Apologies, Defining and Achieving an Economics of Wellbeing, as well as many smaller books on urban planning and other issues featured on the website of HealthBridge (www.healthbridge.ca). She also appears regularly in videos on diverse topics, that are featured on the YouTube channel of the Institute of Wellbeing.
