MOOC: Local Economic Development

IHS has partnered with the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), Erasmus University Rotterdam to release a new Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) titled Local Economic Development.

 

Local economic development is about creating jobs, managing resources, improving public services and securing livelihoods. It refers to the methods that businesses and local governments use to raise income in a way that is sustainable.

This course is eight weeks in length and questions the where, what, why and how surrounding economic development. Exploring issues such as why some places experience economic development whilst others do not and what factors prevent people from leading the lives that they want to lead where they are.

The MOOC will provide its participants with the basics to understand why and how economic development happens and who stands to benefit.

This course is available free-of-charge on Coursera from February 19th. If you wish to enroll onto this course you will need to have a Coursera account.
